OBITUARY.
SERQEANT WALTER COOPER. FORMERLY AT HAMILTON. The death occurred suddenly at Port Ahuriri of Sergeant Walter Cooper, who had for four years been in charge of the police 'station there. Deceased who was born in Scotland 57 years ago, served nearly 10 years in the Scots Guards, and four and ahalf years in the Lanarkshire Constabulary in England, before coming to New Zealand. He was appointed a constable in Wellington in 1905, and after spending some years at Pahiatua received a sole charge appointment at Whatuapoko, in the Gisborne district in 1912. Five years later ho was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to Auckland. in January, 1925, deceased came to Hamilton as assistant sergeant, remaining here until the beginning of 1928, when lie was moved to Port Ahuriri, where- he was stationed until the time of his death. Sergeant Cooper was recognised by all who knew him as an efficient officer, and his passing is a severe loss to the police force of New Zealand. MR J. S. STOREY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Thursday. One of Marlborough’s leading public figures, Mr John Sumner Storey, of Kaituna, died yesterday at the age of 71 years. He came to Marlborough 07 years ago.
