.BRITISH CUSTOMS DUTIES

TO STAND FOR A YEAR. THE GOVERNMENT’S VIEW. (Official Wireless.) (Received April 28. 12.13 p.m.) RUGBY, April 27. It is announced in the House of Commons that the Government shares the view of the Import Duties Advisory Committee that the duties imposed by the recent order should not, in general, be reduced in the next 12 months. Major Colville (Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Trade) in reply to a question, added: “ In the general interests of the United Kingdom’s trade, however, some modification may be found expedient, even within that period, should it prove possible to secure in return important reductions ill foreign duties, which promise substantial advantages to our expork trade.”
