OBITUARY.
MR WILLIAM LOCKWOOD. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received April 28, P. 30 a.m.) LONDON, April 27. Tltc death is reported of William Ilenry Lockwood, Hie well-known cricketer, aged G i years. The late Mr Lockwood was a professional cricketer who played for Surrey County for 13 years. He represented England seven times at home and was a member of A. E. Stoddart’s team in Australia 18P4-5. Lockwood was at his best, the finest of English fast bowlers. Altogether in test matches he took 43 wickets with an average cost of 20.55 runs. He was also a good hard hitting batsman. His most successful seas ms were 18PP (1272 runs, and 117 wickets), and 1 POO (1367 runs, and 125 wickets). In 1891 lie took four wickets with consecutive halls for Surrey v. Warwickshire and in the same year took 4 wickets in 4 balls, v. Derbyshire.
MRS ELLEN ELLIS. AUCKLAND, TI ui rsd ny. The death occurred of Mrs Ellen Ellis, aged 82, widow of the late Mr .1. (R Ellis, an early Waikato settler. Over 50 years ago Mr and Mrs Ellis came lo New Zealand, and far 30 years engaged in fanning in the Waikato. They then ?elired, settling at Avondale! Since the death of Mr Ellis a few years ago Mrs Ellis had resided with tier only surviving son, Mr J. E. Ellis, of Avondale. MRS ELIZABETH EVANS. PALMERSTON X.. Wednesday. The deatli has occurred at the ago of 97 years of Mrs Elizabeth Evans, who came to New Zealand over 50 years ago.
