BOOKMAKING CHARGE.

TOBACCONIST FINED £BO. (By Teleeraob.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. George Nelson Shore, tobacconist, of Hataitai, was held in a reserved judgment of Mr Page, S.M., delivered to-day, to como within the meaning of bookmaker, and a fine of £SO was imposed, payable at the rate of onethird each -month for three months. This was a proseoutlon which followed the refusal of a father to pay his son’s debt. “The fact," said Mr Page, “if it was a fact, that the defendant’s practice was to lay off his bets with a bookmaker from whom he may have been allowed a commission, dpes not, in my opinion, alter his own status as a bookmaker.”
