An informal game betw-een Ngutunul and Pirongia juniors took place on the new ground. The new ground is in a very handy position, being adjacent to the tennis courts, and lias been provided at considerable expense by the local Domain Board.
It, is the intention of the board to provide an up-to-date dressing shed as soon as funds permit. The Farm. Cold nights, threatening frost,, have been the rule here recently. However, there is a fair growth since the late rain, and, given a little more favourable weather, we will commence the winter better provided for than was the case last year so far as grass is concerned. The position in regard to winter supply of hay and ensilage Is not good on many farms owing to the backward spring growth In the first place, and late cutting and light crops due to the poor season generally and In some cases insufficient fertilisers. Taken generally the past season Is regarded by many as the worst ever experienced. A Cow Drive. A cull cow drive has recently been conducted throughout the dislrict under (he auspices of the. New Zealand Farmers’ Union. It is understood 1 hat the culls will be purchased on the hooks at the Horotiu works at -is 6d per cwt. Not Afraid of Work. That certain of the unemployed are prepared to work hard for very small reward seems apparent when men will put In the long hours and hard work necesary in rabbiting for a return of lid for rabbits delivered to the railway.
