WOOL SALES.
COMPETITION IN SYDNEY. PRICES FAVOUR GROWERS. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY, Jan. 13. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 10,550 bales were offered and 10,106 were sold. Also 638 bales were disposed of privately. The trend of the market was again in the growers’ favour with the 5 per cent, advance noted at the beginning of the week fully maintained, especially In the case of skirtings. Competition was keen. Greasy Merino sold to 17d. Messrs Dalgety and Company Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated 12th. Instant:—
“The -wool sales opened active, competition animated, attendance large, selection fair. Home trade are the principal operators, Continental buyers fairly active. Merinos firm at unchanged prices, pieces and bellies par to 5 per cent, higher; crossbred fln°, ohange, if any, is in favour of sellers; keen demand for 50’s and above; orossbred medium, unchanged; crossbred, coarse, change, if any, is in favour of buyers.

ThfeNewrtZealand Lpan : and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has received the following advice from Its London office, dated January 12:— “ There was a good atendance at the opening of the wool sales to-day, competition by Home and German buyers being fairly active. Prices, as compared with the close of the preceding series, ruled in the sellers’ favour for good greasy Merino and flne greasy crossbred. Otherwise the market is Arm."
