LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
A WIN FOR HAMILTON. VICTORY OVER KIA ORA. FAST AND OPEN PLAY. In the League fontball at Hinemoa Park on Saturday, the Hamilton thirteen defeated Kia Ora (Huntly) by 24 points to 10. The game was witnessed by a good attendance and the play was fast and open. The teams were: — Hamilton. — O'Halloran, Crewther Parry, Welch, Muir, Graham, Paget. Astle, Stubblngs, Robertson, Hines, Perry, Simons. Kia Ora. —Ruamati, Tataoho, W. Mikl, Tarawhitl, Puaha, H. Tuma!, Waikato, Kaweroa. G. Mikl, F. Tumal, Kairena, Martin, Pakl. With a strong wind blowing across the field, Hamilton kicked the ball into the Kia Ora forwards and attacked strongly, forcing their way down to Kia Ora’s 25. For a forward pass Hamilton were given a free kick. J. Muir’s shot failed. Kia Ora torced their way up to the Hamilton 25, but Hamilton brought play back to midfield. Welch started a rush and Hamilton had a good chance of scoring but the ball was forced out by the defenders. From a scrum Hamilton heeled the ball cleanly, and H. Muir dashed through and passed to Graham, who punted hard down the line, but the ball went out. Hamilton forwards pressed hard and Welch made a strong dash down the line but was pushed out. From the subsequent play Hamilton gained possession and sent the ball out to their backs. Welch gained possession and raced over for a good try. The shot at goal failed. Hamilton 3 Kia Ora 0 Robertson opened up play for Hamilton. He dribbled the ball towards Kia Ora's line and beat the full-back. Paget who was supporting him gathered and scored. Muir failed with the kick. Hamilton 6 Kia Ora 0 Kia Ora were soon pressing hard on the Hamilton line, but Perry saved the situation. Astle made a strong rush but the visiting full-back checked him. Both teams were playing with confidence and the game was very interesting. The Hamilton backs continued to throw the ball about freely, Graham made a strong rush down the line and Short punted infield. Welch was handy and cut in nicely to beat the full-back and score. Graham failed with the kick. Hamilton 9 Kia Ora 0 The Visitors Attack. On the resumption Kia Ora then had a turn on attack. They forced their way up to the homo 25 from where B. Mikl made a strong dash to beat several and score. Ruamati kicked a good goal. Kia Ora 5 Hamilton 9 The visiting backs were playing good open football and outshone Hamilton. From a scrum the visitors secured and started a passing rush, but a forward pass held up the play. Robertson, who was playing an excellent game forced his way through the opposing pack. After a hard tussle by both the forward packs Hamilton heeled the ball out to their backs Astle made a good run down the line and scored behind the posts. Hines kicked the goal. Hamilton 14 Kia Ora 5 The Hamilton backs got going again. Welch secured and scored. The kick was successful. Hamilton 19 Kia Ora 5 Kia Ora now made play very lively and after several good movements were given a free kick, for a man off-side. Pakl goalcd. Kia Ora 7 Hamilton 19 Pakl opened play to his backs who invaded the homo 25. A keen tussle look place near the Hamilton line, but Hie visitors could not get over. Hamilton brought play back to half-way where Stubblngs secured and alter a good dash, scored. Crewther kicked the goal. Hamilton • 24 Kia Ora 7 Kia Ora pressed hard In the closing stages and were rewarded with a try. The goal shot failed and the game ended: Hamilton 24 Kia Ora 10 Mr Morris was referee. SOUTH AUCKLAND CHAMPIONS. NGARUAWAHIA SUCCESS. By defeating Tauplrl on Saturday afternoon by 8 points to 5, Ngaruawahia won the South Auckland clun championship. The game was fast and open and productive of a good standard of football. INTER-ISLAND MATCH. NORTH BEATS SOUTH. AUCKLAND, Saturday. In tho annual Inter-Island match the North Island representatives overwhelmed the South Island by 52 points to 23. The game was fast, open and spectacular. The Southern forwards played with determination, but their backs, particularly the Insides, were far Inferior to (heir opponents. The visitors made many mistakes, and the Northerners turned these to account with Interest. As a result of the game the Llpscombe Shield, which has been held by the South for the past two years, returns to the North, while the latter also gains the honour of being the first to have their names inscribed on the new Courtney silver football.
