MASSEY COLLEGE.
WORK OF THE YEAR. THE ANNUAL REPORT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The annual report of the Massey Agricultural College shows that the expenditure for the year totalled £18,421, being £221 in excess of the income. The revenue items comprise £15,000 as Government grant, £lOOl in students’ fees and £2419 in interest on bequests. Salaries of professors and staff involved an expenditure of £12,000. The number of students increased during the year from 175 to 208, but the College Council expresses the opinion that until a permanent dormitory building was completed the institution would be handicapped, as many parents declined to enrol their sons on account of lack of hostel accommodation.
The research work in hand had made satisfactory progress, and although the Department of Scientific Research was obliged to withdraw financial assistance in wool research, it had not yet been necessary to reduce the programme owing lo help from the Sheep Breeders’ Association. The tendency was to concentrate still more on sheep and. dairy farming, leaving pasture work to the plant research station and grain-growing to the Canterbury Agricultural College.
