ACCLIMATISATION.

REDUCTION OF SOCIETIES. MOVE FOR EFFICIENCY. (Special to Times). WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The department of Internal Affairs recommends a reduction in the number of acclimatisation societies throughout the Dominion as a move towards greater efficiency. With a full appreciation of the good work done by the 30 districts in New Zealand in the past, the Minister, Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, in the annual report presented to Parliament to-day says it is the considered opinion of the department that with fewer districts costs of administration could he materially reduced. “Effective ranging is essential,” the report states. “There cannot be too much ranging and even if only the savings from administration expenses were devoted to this purpose the result would be an increase in absolutely protected birds and native and imported game and fish through the greater protection afforded against poachers.’’
