THE MOTHERS’ UNION

WORK IN THE WAIKATO. THE WAVE OF PRAYER. The annual report of the work for the ye'ar ended May 31 showed that the Mothers’ Union in the Waikato Diocese Is in a mostesatisfactory condition with regard to its growth spiritually and In the Increase of branches and members. The deepening of the spiritual life of the union is evidenced by the efforts which branches are making to form prayer circles. We record with thankfulness that this movement is gaining ground and ask all branches to give it their prayerful consideration (states the latest issue of the Diocesan Magazine).

During the year seven new' branches have been formed and 150 members have been enrolled so that now' there are 19 branches and 360 members in 'this diocese, At the first council meeting of the Mothers’ Union in the Waikato the matter of an orphanage for the diocese was discussed and it was decided that the union should give its whole-hearted support to this "object; so far very little has been done. Obviously the work is both urgent and necessary; we ask all branches to make some special effort to raise money for this purpose as soon as possible. The wave of prayer rests upon the Dioceses of Auckland and Waikato from August 25 to 31. Mothers’ Union members throughout the world will be praying for us; we must not fail in joining ourselves with them. Wc have the intimate knowledge of our special needs as they cannot have, but \*e and they have each a special part to perform. Last year the days were divided among the branches and on the day allotted to the branch the Vicar of the Parish arranged for a special celebration of Holy Communion for the members. It is hoped that the same may be done this year and that the branches will follow' the plan as given below: — Tuesday, August 25; Fitzroy, Te Awamutu, Te Aroha. Wednesday, August 26: Cambridge, Putaruru, Okato, .Raglan. Thursday, August 27: Matamata, Frankton, Waitara. Friday, August 28: Te Kulti, Inglewood, Iluntly. Saturday, August 29: Stratford, Otorohanga, Ngarau • wahia. Sunday, August 30: All Mothers’ Union members asked to attend the celebration in their parish church. Monday, August 31: Cathedral, Taumarunui, Paeroa. On the first day, August 25, a quiet day is being arranged at To Aroha; this is a special effort and will not take the place of the quiet day which will be held in Hamilton later in the year.
