TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council was held last evening, when the Mayor, Air C. G. Downes, presided, and there were also present, Crs. A. Brown, G. A. Empson, G. Spinley, AV. C. Savill, W. J. North, H. ,C. Rainey, F. J. Gilbert and G. Gifford. Mr W. Swain appeared before the councill in connection with come land owned by the J. L. Alandeno estate, which was the oauso of his having received a letter from the borough engineer, calling upon them to clear the land of noxious weeds, etc. He- had inspected it that day, and found everything in good -order, and no noxious weeds on the property. It was shown that In such a case, when there were, 3om(e cases of noxious weeds, all property owners In that area had to bo notified whether they were liable or not.

. The Mayor advised that notices now c-ould he sent by advertisement. He told Mr Swain that he had better advise his clients that the work had been done.

Hospital Estimates.

The Waikato Hospital Board advised the council of the amended estimates as approved toy tho Health Department. Theso -show a considerable reduction.

Tho town clerk, Pukokohe Borough forwarded a protest from his council regarding regulation 0 (4) of the Draft Heavy Afotor Vehicle Regulations, .which -called upon local bodies who had a system of street lighting to adequately illuminate the face of overy street classification sign. He added further reasons in support of the protest and asked for this council’s support.

Tho Mayor pointed out that they had not got a copy of the regulations. It was decided to receive the letter. Interest Rates. A letter from the Eden Chamber of Commerce contained a resolution passed by that body pointing -out the economio necessity for a reduction of at least H per cent, on all interna! Interest on Governnment bonds, local body debentures and private mortgages; and that the Government he requested 'to bring down legislation to carry this into effect. The letter was received.

The Alayor moved the resolution of which he had previously given notice, namely, to rescind the motion passed last yoar that the new public library and reading room should be erected in Bank Street. He added that the Library Committee, at Its annual meeting, had strongly reoommended the erection -of these buildings at tho back of the War Alemorlal.

It was decided to defer tho n\atter to the noxt meeting.
