Flood waters backing up the main street at Gaumain to a height of two feet were instrumental In saving a large block of houses and shops from destruction by fire, a cottage was gutted, hut a buoket brigade, standing knee-deep in water, prevented tho flames spreading. Almost every river In the State Is In flood. Yesterday the position eased on the / coastal rivers north of Hunter. Fur« ther rain, however, is predicted. A cyclone Is raging between Lord Howe island and Gabo. At Tamworth the Peel River marooned many people. The police rescued forty In boats, Including three women and fourteen children. Heavy floods are feared at Wagga. Farmers’ homes in the Coolamon district are flooded. The main street at Imgarie is under water.
