At. the ceremony at Manchester on the arrival of the steamer Surrey with a record cargo of New Zealand produce, Sir Thomas Wilford, tho High Commissioner for Ihe Dominion, trenchantly pointed out that New Zealand's trade went lo southern ports because Manchester wanted goods sent on consignment, thus putting Ihe risk of the market on producers.
