THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Concrete evidence of the capacity of our present municipal council is conveyed in the brief paragraph of your last report of the council proceedings. It staled that a letter was received from a gentleman urging support for tho Fisher money stabilisation process and added —“ The letter was * received ’ without discussion." Not even laid on the table for the information of the councillors! Then nobody, not even the ofllcers of the council administering finance, took the trouble to peruse the correspondence and ascertain if its contents would be beneficial to the ratepayers of Hamilton? No, the entire council, apparently permitted whoever moved tho motion to go ahead. I have perused the recommendations of Mr A. N. Field and consider that they are worthy of close scrutiny and attention from every local authority member in the interests, not only of tho ratepayer but the general taxpayer. Had the council been really conscientious It would have appointed a special committee at least to assuro itself that It was missing nothing helpful ami instructive. A summary of the Fisher scheme should have been prepared and submitted (o the councillors for their guidance. —1 am, etc., CYNIC. Whitiora, March 18.
