Some difference of opinion having arisen re the holding of the school picnic, owing to the committee suggesting that the money collected this year should be put to the Earthquake Relief Fund, it was thought expedient to take a vote of householders on the matter. The contratcor has made a start With the metalling of half-a-mile of Peek’s Road, from the junction of No. 8 and Whakahoro Roads, northwards' towards Tahuna. The road has been •graded for a further half-mile, and it Is probable that the whole length of the road will be metalled within a year or two. There are half-a-dozen settlers along the stretch of unmetalled road, who have been handicapped by the muddy state of the road in •winter. AVhen the road is available at aIJ times of the year it will be used a good deal by through traffic. The School. There are 80 pupils on the school roll, while several younger children who are not old enough to be put on the roll are also attending. It is expected there will be over 90 pupils before the end of the year. Of the seven pupils who gained proficiency certificates last year, two are now attending secondary schools. Earthquake Relief. A dance will be held in about a fortnight, the proceeds of which will go to the earthquake relief fund. The ladies of the district have agreed to provide the refreshments, and the expenses should be negligible, so that the fund should benefit considerably.
