THE HALF HOLIDAY.
i ! (To the Editor.) Sir, —The local movement to revert to Wednesday Tor the weekly halfholiday is to he deplored, and I hope tha.t a poll will be taken and the proposal defeated. A break in the middle of the week, with a late night on Saturday is a retrograde step; it is of no use to the shop assistants. The Saturday afternoon has worked admirably and I cannot see a sing.e reason why it should be altered. We all know that business is not what we would like it to be, but the falling off cannot be attributed to Saturday closing; it is due to 'the economic depression and a change in the day of the weekly respite will not bring about a boom. I think Parliament should pass a law r making Saturday closing compulsory throughout the. Dominion. In the interests of social intercourse between all centres a universal weekend holiday for all is a desirable ideal. -1 am, 610., RELAX. Morrinsville, February 16, 1931.
