The salary cut.
(To the Editor.) Sir, A cut in wages and salaries appears to he inevitable. It is regrettable, but it is little use complaining. Politicians may for the sake ot appearances fume and fret, but if they have as much sense as the} would fain have us think, they cannot believe their own fulminations. I hey would be doing better service tO J-' l ® ll ' countrv, their constituents, and themselves "did they advise all and sundry to squaro their shoulders to the ourden and to bear it with all the equanimity they can call to their aid. There_ are those, however, in the community who have, so far, made no sign of meeting the changed circumstances. I refer to professional men —lawyers and doctors. They raised their charges in order to benefit in the season of prosperity; evidently they are not anxious to meet the period of adversity It would be a graceful act on their part, did they of their .own initiative announce a revision of fees in order to participate in the pleasure of self-sacrifice. —I a “’ I xexatE.
