MINES IDLE.

AT GLEN AFTON. TROUBLE WITH NON-UNIONISTS. SITUATION DELICATE. (Special to Times.) HUNTLY, Tuesday. The Glen Afton and MacDonald mines are idle to-day under circumstances practically constituting a strike. A meeting with the Miners’ Union Council was held this morning, and it is probable that a mass meeting of unionists will be held at Glen Afton this afternoon. Proceedings are not open to the press, but it is understood among miners that the dispute is concerned over the employment of non-unionists at the MacDonald mine who are experienced, against unionists who have no experience in underground work. The situation, is delicate and may extend to all mines throughout the country. It is also understood that the men affected are Maoris.
