RICCARTON CARNIVAL. SILVERMINE IN GOOD ORDER. LA POUPEE GOES SMOOTHLY. (By Tel.—Special to Times.) ■> CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The weather was fine for work at Riccarton this morning. The No. 6 grass was open for fast, work and new arrivals were allowed to work on the course proper. Johneen and Cessation on the No. 6 grass ran their first three furlongs in 38 4-5 s and six furlongs in lm 17 l-ss. They did it well. Imateagirl and Projection had a ding dong go over five furlongs which took lm 2 l-5s —a smart performance.

Pixie Gold and Silver Coot were hunted along for three furlongs and registered 365. Silvermine and Arikinui, with light boys up, dashed over half a mile in 49 l-ss. Silvermine had a shade the best of it with both doing their best. He has filled out into a racy looking gelding. Make Up and Compensation were together at the end of five furlongs in lm 3s, and Courtesy galloped six l'urlongs in lm 17 4-ss. A Good Class Juvenile. Jordan and Fair Weather were the first to gallop on the course properFair Weather won very easily in 495. Jordan’s time was 50 i-ss. Fair Weather is a good class youngster. La Poupee was held back to Chief Cook and Chief Light while they ran four furlongs in 50 i-ss. She went very smoothly. Black Mint ran a mile in lm 40 4-ss. The first four furlongs took 545. Audience, with L. J. Ellis up, sprinted half a mile in 52 4-ss, and could have done better. Song Box (L. J. Ellis) and Glenrowan (Bert Ellis), scampered over half a mile in 49 3-ss. They would not have done better.

An Oaks’ Candidate.

Lady Pam, ridden by H. Gray, galloped ten furlongs, being brought home by Miss Ransom over the last six furlongs. The pace was not on until the filly had gone three furlongs and she rattled over the last half mile in 50 l-ss, the ten furlongs taking 2m 15s. After breakfast Arrow Lad was sent six furlongs on the course proper with T. Green up. He ran the first two furlongs in '26s and reached the winning post in lm 17s without being bustled. He is very well. Earthquake finished ahead of Gold Pit and Lady Valkyrie in a sprint over half a mile that took 51 2-5 s after getting much the worst of the start. Merry Dam°n Appears. Merry Damon, who arrived this morning, galloped seven furlongs in lm 35 1-os and had to be hunted along all the way to do that. Brumal ran three furlongs on the No. 6 grass in 37 2-5 s and Monatio dashed over the same ground in 36 2-ss.
