BULK PURCHASE.

PREMIER CASTIGATED. "SCHEME DAMNED UNHEARD.” An emphatic protest at the aotlon of the Prime Minister Hon. G. W. Forbes), in refusing an offer of bulk purchase of dairy produoe was entered at the meeting of the Waikato Farmers’ Union at Hamilton to-day. The Huntly branch forwarded the following resolution: — “That this branch strongly protests against the action of Mr Forbes in refusing the offer of bulk purchase of New Zealand produce by the British Government and urges the Farmers’ Union to investigate thoroughly the scheme, as it appears to offer a solution to the critical market conditions now obtaining.” Mr J. H. Furniss (president) said Mr Forbes had no mandate from the producers, Parliament or the marketing organisations to take such action. More of these organisations, especially the producers, who were the most concerned, had been consulted. “ I consider Mr Forbes was most ill-advised and indiscreet,” added the speaker. “He utterly damned the scheme unheard before it had received any investigation. His action was most unwarranted and strong objection should be taken to it.” Mr Furniss said full details should be gathered concerning bulk purchase so that recommendations could be framed. . Consideration of the matter was deferred till next meeting.
