The latest Bank of England returns are: Issue Department: Notes in circulation £356,463,738, in the banking department £63,909,232, total £420,372,970; Government debt, £11,015,100, other Government securities £232,892,386, other securities £ll,626,719, silver coin £4,465,795 (these four items constituting fiduciary issue totalling £260,000,000), gold coin and bullion £160,372,970, grand total £420,372,970. Banking Department: Proprietors’ capital £14,553,000, rest £3,136,449, public deposits £19,377,205, other deposits, hankers, other accounts £34,514,530, seven day and other bills £1755, total £127,115,504; Government securities £35,091,247, other securities, discount advances £4,459,233, securities £22,486,519, notes £63,909,232, gold and silver coin £1,169,273, total £127,115,504; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 59.40 per cent; short loans, 1 7-8 per cent; three months hills, two and one sixteenth per cent.
