NEXT WEEK’S SHOW.
GREAT DISPLAY OF STOCKr . TREK TO CLAUDELANDS-. • All roads will lead to Claudelands on Wednesday and Thursday next on the occasion of the thirty-ninth annual show of the Waikato Agricultural- and Pastoral Association. While the entries will not reach last year's record, they are in sufficient number and variety to constitute striking evidence of the splendid allround quality of stock in the South Auckland district. For many years' prominent Waikato breeders have competed in this arena with cattle known throughout the Dominion for butterfat backing and this year indications are for another first-class exhibition. Always outstanding in the province for its horse riding events, the show will again be distinguished this year by the Dominion Jumping Competition with prizes totalling £IOO. Then there will be two trotting events, which arebound to prove popular. Most important of all is the great display of horseflesh from neat backs and hunters to sturdy draughts. Fanciers of sheep arid pigs will find ample to interest mem in The pens this year, and some exceptionally fine material will claim the attention of the judges on Tuesday. Though essentially a farmers’ show, the interest of the town as well as the country is bound up in the home industries and school sections, which show a large increase in entries. In tl\e former section the housewives of Waikato will vie with each other in accomplishing perfection in domestic art.
With fine weather a record attendance should be present at the show, especially on People’s Day, when many firms in town are granting half"' holidays to their staffs.
