MOTH PERIL.
Moths begin to get busy during the summer months. When blankets, furs, warm wraps, etc., are put away, they find all sorts of snug little hiding places where they can breed in comfort.
Before coats are put away for the summer turn out the pockets to remove fluff and crumbs and put in a few chips of a cigar-box inside, as moths dislike the smell. Any heavy curtains, blankets, and rugs should be carefully shaken and then wrapped in plenty of newspaper and linen bags. Moths dislike the smell of printer’s ink, and also avoid cloth surfaces.
Moths can be kept from carpets by a layer of newspaper beneath the underfelt, or between the latter and the carpet. Another good preventative is to spray a little camphor over the edges of the carpet. Moths have a great objection to certain odours. Russia leather is one, ground cloves another, sandalwood, naptha, and camphor. If you have any fear_ that moths may attack the furniture, prepare some little muslin bags and fill them with sandalwood shavings. You can buy these from most drug stores, and the little bags can be then stuffed right rown into the crevices of the chairs and settees.
