HUNTLY TOWN BOARD.

THE ORDINARY MEETING. At the ordinary meeting of the Huntly Town Board the chariman, Mr Edgar George, presided over a full attendance of members. The board’s surveyor (Mr E. V. Blake) submitted the copy of the civic survey map for the town area, accompanied by invoice for £l5O, while the Census and Statistics oflicer (Mr. M. Fraser) advised that there was an outstanding item of £lO in connection with the 1928 road loan of £2560, and steps will be taken to clear this off. Mr E. H. Barrett, Main Highways traffic inspector, will control the Huntly Town district for one month, and will make a special report to the board under that head with a view to efficient control of the local board’s area. The usual Armistice Day arrangements were received from the Prime Minister, and the local board will fall in line with previous year’s ceremonies. Steam Generating Plant. Communications from the Minister of Public Works and the member for Raglan were received advising that there was no immediate prospect of a start being made with the proposed steam-driven plant for generating electric power at Huntly West. The Minister stated that no definite decision had been reached, and that there was not the urgency for the work that he had thought there was. It was resolved to support the remit of the Putaruru Town Board in connection with the representation of members on power boards, viz., that new town boards coming into existence be not excluded in representation. The delegates to the Municipal Conference will be instructed to support the-sister body’s remit. Mr Blake advised that the removal of a quantity of slack in the vicinity , of the Association football ground would not affect the lay-out of the recreation ground. Building permits were granted to Mrs Alex. Shand and Mr J. Glen. The sum of £5 was voted to the Cancer Campaign Fund. A Deputation. A deputation, consisting of Messrs B. Powell, M. Kelleher, and T. Brocklebank waited on the board asking for. preference over other casual taxiowners on the taxi-stand. It was pointed out that the lattes

paid the same fees as those who were permanently on the stand-, and legally there could be no discrimination between any of them. An application in person by Mr Wilf. Davies for permission to lift slack on mutual terms from the council’s area was adjourned pending further inquiry.

A deputation from the Buffalo Lodge complaining of ventilation in the lodge-room of the Town Hall, was suspended, pending a report from the board’s architect.
