DANGEROUS CROSSINGS
LORRY DRIVER KILLED. i COMMENT BY THE CORONER. NEED FOR GREATEST CARE. ’ (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) - PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. An inquest was held concerning the death of Samuel Bambery, a lorry driver who was killed on the railway crossing near Bainesse, last Thursday. Mrs Leach, who witnessed the accident,' stated the lorry-driver did not seem to be aware that the drain was so close when he drove over the crossing. • She knew deceased was blind in the left eye. The driver of the engine, T. Yardley, stated the driver of 4 the lorry gave no indication that he was' about to cross 'the line. As soon as witness saw the lorry making for the crossing he applied the brakes and brought the train to a stop within 200 yards. The Coroner returned a verdict that deceased met his death in a collision between a motor lorry he was driving and a train, adding that the accident could only be attributed to the failure of deceased to take proper precautions when approaching the crossing. - * “ Grossing problems are difficult ones,!’ . stated the Coroner, “ the human. element being the deciding factor between safety and- danger. The latest accident goes to show how extreme care should be taken by anyone approaching crossings.” ■
