PRISONERS SENTENCED.
AUCKLAND SUPREME COURT. A TERRIBLE CRIME. (By Telegraph.—Prr=« Hnsoriatlon.') AUCKLAND, Monday. Prisoners were sentenced in the Supreme Court. Charles Bennett, alias Richard Jones, aged 24, and Leslie Dickson, aged 24, on seven charges of breaking, entering and theft at Auckland, Thames, Tauranga and Whakatane, were sentenced to reformative detention, Bennett two years and Dickson 18 months.
Nai Rangihaka, aged 30, breaking, entering and theft, three charges, six months’ imprisonment. George Dawson Barrett, rape at Paeroa, ten years’ imprisonment. Prisoner protested 'his innocence before sentence was passed. “I don’t believe you for a moment,” said Mr JusLice Smith. He described the crime as terrible. The only thing he could do was to send accused out of society for a very long time.
