Play in the semi-finals of the amateur golf championship and the final of the professional championships took place to-day. The new professional champion is F/ Rutter, of Auckland, who defeated J. Mclntosh. The amateur championship will be placed between the brothers J. L. and H. A. Black. Following are the results: — PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. « Final. F. Rutter defeated J. Mclntosh, 6 and 4. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. Semi-finals. H. A. Black defeated L. Cathro, 2 and 1. J. L. Black defeated T. H. Horton, 2 and 1. FOUR-BALL BOGEY. W. G. Clark and H. Blytli, 1. G. P. Roberts and F. Huggins, 2. DRIVING. A. Murray won the individual and aggregate events with 244yds and 243 yds respectively. AMATEUR FINALISTS.

Although the w.a.her was threatening, no rain fell this morning when the filial of the New Zealand amateur go!? championship commenced between 11. A. Black (Miiamar) and J. L. Black (Hamilton). At the end of the first eighteen boles the former was three up. The standard of goli on the trip out was by no means brilliant, resembling as it did a club match. Poor figures were pul up, J. Black taking 41 and bis brother 40. The later was 1 up at the turn, but J. Black squared at the 10th. At the 13th 11. Black was 1 up, and the standard of play was improving. J. Black recaptured the hole at the loth, but lost ground again when his brother replied with a good three at the ncxL, to make himself 2 up. J Black’s approach putt at the 1 <th was too strong, and he overran the cup with his return. JI. Black took (he hole, and with the 18th squared was 3 up at the end of the first round. li. PLAY IN PROFESSIONAL FINAL

In the final of the professional championship, Mclntosh drew blood at the first hole, winning in four. The second was halved in four. Rutter squared by winning the third in four. Mclntosh took the fourth, holing his putt from Hie edge of the green. He also won the fifth and sixth in fours, and was 3 up. The seventh was halved in 5. Rut ter won one hack at the eighth, in a perfect .3, and McIntosh replied with 3 to win aL the ninth, and was 3 up. ■ The cards on the outward journey were: Mclntosh 35 Rutter, 38

The next, two holes were halved in 4 and 6 respectively. Rutter lost the 12th, missing an 18in putt. Mclntosh was 4 up at the 13111. The 14th was halved in fives. A masnifleent drive and a second and a long putt gave Rutter the loth and he was now get-

iing a better touch. Rutter won the 16th in four and the 17th was halved. The 18th was halved in fours, leaving Mclntosh 2 up. The cards for the round were: Mclntosh 75 Rutter 17

The nineteenth hole was halved in four. Rutter took the 20th and the 2ist in fours, to Mclntosh’s fives, and squared. Rutter for the first time was up at the 22nd, where he holed a beautiful 2. Mclntosh was in serious trouble at the 23rd, which cost him seven. Rutter was then 2 up and plaving determinedly. He added another hole at the 25th, and a half at the 26th. Rutter won the 27th in 3. Rutter was now 4 up. The cards were: Mclntosh 41 Rutter '• 34 A perfect four at the 28th gave Mclntosh a win, which Rutter balanced at the next hole. Rutter saved by a long putt at the 30th and, after striking a cabbage tree with his second shot at the 31st, landed a perfect brassie to the green and holed in four, making him 5 up and dormy. In a dying effort Mclntosh drove two balls out of bounds, and abandoned the match.

The winner played brilliantly in the afternoon, and at his best he has no superior in the country. He is a master of ail his clubs. The pace set in Hie afternoon was 100 solid for his opponent, who was very formidable in the morning, hut outplayed in the afternooa.
