HORSES IN TRAINING. NOTES FROM THE TRACK. TO-DAY’S RICCARTON WORK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The outside of the course proper was open for fast work this morning. Owing to a large number of horses being engaged at the Bank’s Peninsula meeting to-day there was not much galloping, and what there was did not prove of great interest. There was some rain overnight, and it was a cold raw morning, but the going was good. Subdivision sprinted five furlongs comfortably in 1.4 4-5. He is working well. In Excellent Trim. The Stewards’ Handicap favourite, Hunting Day, sprinted half a mile in 50 3-ss. He was carrying a small boy and was never off the bit. He looks very fit. Riri, with % a featherweight up, ran a mile front a racing start in 1.45 2-5. It was a disappointing gallop. " Cylinder and Love Song were companions in a gallop over a mile that took 1.45 3-5. The first half-mile was done in 50 4-ss, and they looked capable of doing better. Cylinder does not look quite ready. Meprisant, with a. very light weight up, galloped ten furlongs in 2.11 2-5. He finished particularly well, but he is not ready yet. Chief Light and Irish Chieftain ran a half-mile together in 495. They did their work well, and evidently were not out to, beat, each other. Paquito and Dunraven sprinted five furlongs together. The last four Look 52 4-ss, but they were not all out. Paquito finished best, and he is getting over his cold. In the Shade Shapes Well. Sargon and In the Shade were companions in a gallop over a mile. Sargon, who was in receipt of a lump of weight, was kicked out while In the Shade, on the outer, was always going easily.' The first half-mile look 525, and the mile 1.45 2-5. The Cup horse is in great order, and could have done a long way better. Star Stranger and Count Palatine were matched over a mile with featherweights up. Star Stranger got about two lengths the best of the start,, and he led all the way. Both were just about doing their best. The first half-mile was run in 525, and the second in 51s, making 1.43 for the mile. Count Palatine pulled up well, but 'Star Stranger, who looks big, blew a bit. It was a good gallop.

Gustavo, after doing trotting exercise in the middle, was given halfpace work on the plough, lie is not lame, but he is wearing an antiflogestine poultice on his near foreleg. Prodice and Desert Glow were sent ten furlongs together. They maintained an even pace all the way, but were not asked to do their best. The last mile took 1.45, and it was a very nice working gallop. Hacks to Shape Well. Lord Thomond and Painkiller ran six furlongs in 1.15 2-5. Lord Thomond finished better than the filly. It was a good gallop for hacks. Ranelagh was under a strong pull while running four furlongs in 52 4-5. He will not be racing on the first day of the meeting. He is very well. There was nothing between Innuendo and Tea Chat in a scamper over four furlongs that .took 48 4-ss. They carried light boys. Pangolin, with G. Salt up, gave a brilliant showing in a schooling gallop over four flights of hurdles. He will be ridden by Salt next Saturday. Desert Song could have improved upon the 52 2-5 s he took to run half a mile. A Smart Five. Havaspot and cadland, with welter weights up, sprinted five furlongs in 1.2 2-5. There was nothing between them at the- finish, but Cadland was.i going better than his opponent. The last half-mile took 48 4-ss, and it was a smart performance. i Nightmarch was not out. He is to give an exhibition gallop at the Banks Peninsula meeting to-day. Don Jose led Havering from end to end of seven furlongs,, done in 1.31. Great Star galloped seven furlongs in 1.34 4-5.
