Entrance gates are to be erected at the Hamilton High School. A committee of the Board of Governors is now considering various tenders submitted.

Entries for the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Show, which have been coming in freely yesterday and to-day, will close with the secretary this evening.

Keen interest is evinced among Old Boys of the Hamilton Technical School in the proposal to form an Old Boys’ Association. A meeting for the purpose is to be held in the school on November 4.

Nearly 2400 overseas travellers made Auckland their terminal port during October. Arrivals from all countries numbered 1780 and departures 607, a total of 2387. r

Building permits granted by the Auckland City Council in October represented a value of £88,398. The total value of permits granted in the first 10 months of the current year is £691,676, compared with £1,302,890 for the same period of last year.

The Hamilton High School will break up on December 12. The school sports will be held on November 14. His Excellency, the Governor-General, is to be invited to address the gathering at the breaking up ceremony.

Six petitions in bankruptcy were filed in the Hamilton district last month, . compared with four during October, 1929. The occupations of the bankrupts were: Two farmers, a contractor, carpenter, hardware merchant, and joinery manager.

Residents of this district desirous of attending the popular Manawatu A. and P. Show will be pleased to learn that liberal concessions in fares have been granted by the Railway Department. Particulars will be found in our advertising columns in to-day’s issue.

There were 20 bankruptcies in the Auckland district during October, bringing the total for the first ten months of this year to 119, compared with 115 for the same perio,d of 1929. The total for the month is an increase of nine on the preceding month, and an increase of eight on the total for October of last year.

The Auckland Automobile Association advises that during the ’ reconstruction of one and a-half miles of May road preparatory to metalling, the through route from Bombay td Hunua, via the Paparata Valley, will not be negotiable for motor traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid this stretch of road for a.few weeks.

The following public company has been registered in Auckland: —Neon Luminous Signs, Limited, manufacturers, importers and dealers in apparatus for advertising. Capital, £15,000, in £1 shares. Subscribers: Selwyn Ernest Lampier Aickin, Arthur Thomas Newdick, William Patrick John Anderson, 100 shares each; Robert McGregor, John Barlow Gilmore, Cecil Wilfred Harty, David Collinson, one share each. Inconvenience is likely to be caused to road users bn the main highway between Auckland and Hamilton at a point situated about four miles north of Huntly, where a clay filling is being placed to raise the road preparatory to tar-sealing. The Auckland Automobile Association is stationing a patrol to assist motorists during the week-end and he will co-operate with the traffic inspector of the County Council. Motorists are particularly warned that there is a length of road which will be available for ' one-car traffic only.
