GAMES IN GREAT BRITAIN. BIRMINGHAM CHECK ASTON VILLA Results of games played in England and Scotland on Saturday, Ootober 18, to hand. English Matches. In the first division of the English League Derby County recorded a good win at' Newcastle, while Birmingham and Manchester City forced Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday to drawn games. Portsmouth also had a fine victory at Grimsby. Aston Villa, Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday are the first three in this division. In the second division Preston, ny a narrow win over Plymouth, go to the top of the chart, as Everton only drew with Notts 'Forest. Port Vale and Bradford City registered victories on foreign'soil, while Swansea did well to draw with Burnley at Turf Moor. Notts County continued their winning way in the third division (Southern), beating Newport at Newport by the odd goal In five. They are the only undefeated team In the four divisions of the league, having :22 points out of a possible 24. Northampton follow with 16 points for 10 matches played. ■ In the third division (northern) Lincoln still head the table by winning at Southport. Tranmere dropped a valuable point at home to Halifax, and now occupy second position with Chesterfield, Stockport County are close up. Games in Scotland. Results in Scotland were as expected, with one exception, that being Kilmarnock’s victory over the Rangers at home; Big scores were chalked up by Motherwell, Partick Thistle, Hearts and Hamilton Acoies, while in a high-scoring game at Cappilow, Morton defeated Hibernians by the odd goal in nine. Motherwell ar6 the only club which has not yet suffered a defeat. In the second division Third Lanark sustained their first defeat of the season at Falkirk, going down 2—l to East Stirling. This division is very open. Dumbarton, Dunfermline, and Third Lanark are all equal with 17 points for 11 matches, while St. Johnstone and Alloa Athletic have 15 points for 11 games played.
