BULK PURCHASE.
ATTITUDE OF FARMERS. NEED FOR CAUTION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. • Caution in approaching the question of bulk purchase, as discussed, at the Imperial Conference, was'recommended by Mr W. J. Poison, ALP., .president, at a meeting of the executive ,of the. New Zealand Farmers’ Union last evening. Bulk purchase, said Air Poison, was looming largely at Horne as one ,of the important proposals of the Imperial Government. They were inclined to be caught by the idea, because the commandeer had meant high prices and a prosperous period for New Zealand producers, hut hulk purchase did not resemble the commandeer, which was a contract with the producers of the Empire at remunerative prices, while bulk purchase would be at competitive prices -from whoever would sell. Even if they agreed to it, it must be with safeguards that they would not be put in the position they were in when the commandeer ended. They should not discard the idea of hulk purchase, but they should examine it cautiously. Any scheme must include, in the event of a contract being made, provision for distribution return to the status quo ante. As far as Js'ew Zealand was concerned any scheme that did not provide for that should be considered as nothing but dangerous.
