RACING TAXATION.

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. The taxation paid to the Government by tlie Auckland Trotting Club on its spring meeting last Saturday and Monday totalled £5751. Details are as follows: —Totalisato'r tax, £2827; dividend tax, £2473; stakes tax, £227; amusements tax, £224. The totalisator investments at the recent meeting aggregated £50,538, compared with £78,788 at last year’s spring meeting, a decrease of £22,522. In spite of this large drop the Government, by reason -of the extra taxation imposed this year, received only £173 less in totalisator and dividend tax. Owing to the reduction in prizemoney the stake stax yielded £7B less. The attendance was smaller than last year, but -the extra amsuemenls tax more than offset this as far as the Government is concerned, its yield being £23 larger. Particulars of the taxation paid last, year are as follows: Totalisator tax, £1909; dividend lax, £3540; stakes, tax, £305; amusements tax, £201; total, £OO2I.
