DISEASE IN AUSTRALIA.

SPREAD BY 00NTACT8. SHOCKING LAXITY, SAYS DOCTOR. A shocking state of affairs exists In New South Wales In regard to the oontrol of the contacts of infectious and contagious diseases, according to Alderman Dr. F. V. McAdam at Lidcombe Council (says a Sydney paper). He added that the Improper oontrol of oontacts did more to spread disease than anything else. "■There is considerable laxity in the control of contacts, and in a district like Lidcombe these spread disease rapidly,” he went on. “Medical officers, report on each case, and instruct the people in each house on the duty of keeping contacts from spreading the disease, but frequently the people allow the contacts, especially if they are children, to run about the street —- sometimes to go to school before they should —and to run messages. “Sometimes grown-up contacts go in buses, trains and trams, and even to picture theatres. The medical offleers can hardly act as police in the matter. A tightening up of regulations is urgently needed.” The council decided to bring the matter before the Board of Health.
