SEQUEL TO FATALITY.
CHARGE OF NEGLIGENT DRIVING. NEW EVIDENCE ADDUCED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Arising out. of a fatal collision between a motor-car and a single, lorry af the gates of the Paparua prison on August 12, Vernon Clement, the driver of the. car, a salesman employed by Adams, Limited, was charged to-day before the Magistrate, Mr Young, with negligently driving a car on the the road to the West Coast, thereby causing the death of Edward Reynolds, of Wellington. A new witness, Wilfred Brian Fetchett, of Palmerston North, said that on August 12, he- saw a Studebaker car going in a westerly direction. It passed over an intersection at an estimated, speed of over forty miles an hour. Later, he saw the same car being towed back. The Magistrate held that a prima face case had been made out. If accused had been keeping a proper lookcut he should have been 1 able to pull up or swerve to the right. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
