The authorities have been investigating Government contracts and subsidies, with a view to finding possible ways of .reducing’expenditure. They have discovered a subsidy on the east to west air mail service of 1)39,000 per annum. This cannot be cut, because the company has a contract which will not expire until 1934. The Government finds also that the aerial service affects the trans-continental railway to a very serious extent.
