TAMAHERE.
The Weather. Real wintry conditions prevailed over the week-end, continuous rain falling. New Arrivals. Several new residents have come to this locality of recent weeks, and we wish them prosperity and a happy future. A Farewell Evening. A gay crowd gathered at the residence of Mr Turnbull to bid farewell to Mr Kitson, who is leaving on a trip to England this month. The entertainment was varied, games, 'dancing and bridge being combined. Cheery fires in every available fireplace added greatly to the comfort of the guests. After supper, Mr Owen, in one of his kindly speeches, presented Mr Kitson with a “ gentleman's companion ” on behalf of his many friends, and wished him bon voyage. Mr Kitson suitably responded. After the singing of “ He’s a Jolly Good Fellow ” and “ Auld Lang Syne ” the dancing went gaily on till the early hours of the morning.
