Smith is to soil to-morrow for Amsterdam. He says lie has decided to fly in the Southern Cross across the Atlantic and will take off from Ireland. The airman intends to take his machine lo Ireland under its own pow : er possibly .within five weeks. Once he reaches Ireland lie will await good weather before making the westward hop. lie conferred with Mr Fokker at New York to-day and says lie feels that apart from minor repairs to one wing of the Southern Cross there is surprisingly little needed in the way of alterations. lie is confident of success. Kingsl’ord Smith will take a wireless operator and a navigator and possibly a eo-pilol. It is understood the navigator will be one of the most experienced trans-occanic aviators.
