LAND SETTLEMENT.

ANOTHER PROPERTY PURCHASED. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Completion of the purchase by the Government for closer settlement purposes of a portion of the property of Air. and Mrs. J. Beattie at Cambrians, Central Otago, was announced by the Minister of Lands, the lion. G. W. Fores, to-day. The Minister stated that the area concerned comprised 4793 acres and it had been acquired under the group settlement system on behalf of eight applicants who were in a position to commence farming operations as soon ■as their respective sections were allotted to them.

Mr. Forbes added that grazing and mixed farming would be carried on by the new settlers.
