DOMINION POLITICS.

THE PARNELL BY-ELECTION. THE CAMPAIGN OPENED. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Making a plea that the Government should be given time to develop its policy, Mr W. A. Donald, the United Party candidate In the Parnell byelection, opened his campaign at Remuera last evening, and was given an attentive hearing by an audience of about 600. At the close a motion expressing confidence in the candidate was carried without dissent.

The Labour candidate, Mr T. Blood.worth, opened his campaign at the Remuera library last evening. He spoke to an audience of 300 for one and a half hours without interruption, and received a vote of thanks and confidence.

CHARGES AGAINST REFORM. BY MINISTER OF LABOUR. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Two charges against the Reform Party were made by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. W. A. Veitoh, when speaking at the opening meeting of Mr W. A. Donald, United Party candidate in the Parnell by-election, last evening. Mr Veitch asserted, firstly, that the Government tried strenuously to pass the whole of its Transport Bill last session, but was prevented by the severe opposition of the Reform Party. Secondly, he alleged that the Reform Party, by stonewalling the Government’s land taxation bill, had caused the breakdown in health of the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward. SAME NUMBER OF VOTES. Exactly the same number of electors will be entitled to vote at the Parnell by-election as did so in the electorate at the general election in 1928. Since the general election 1895 names have been removed and the new enrolments on the supplementary roll for the by-election also total 1895. The total roll number is 14,073. THE REFORM PARTY*. WAIKATO EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Waikato Reform Party met at Morrlnsville and decided to invite nominations for a Reform candidate at the coming election.
