SNOW IN THE SOUTH.

FIRST FALL OF SEASON. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. Rain over most parts of Canterbury last night will help the growth of winter feed in the pastures which, until recently, were very parched as a result of the prolonged spell of dry weather. The cold south-west wind, which brought the rain, also left a thick coating of snow on the Southern Alps and on the foot-hills almost to their base.
