LAND SPEED RECORD. KAYE DON’S EFFORTS. UNSATISFACTORY CONDITIONS. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. —Copyright. NEW YORK, April 12. A message from Daytona Beach, Florida, says Mr Kaye Don, the English racing motorist, who lias been attempting to break the world’s land speed record, denies a report that he has given up the effort. However, there is a well-defined feeling there that yesterday’s runs were his last for this season. Mr Don has hooked his passage from New York by the Aquitania, which is to sail on April IG. It is undestood that a conference is to be held this evening at which he will be requested to state his exact intentions before interested persons. Air Warren Baker, course steward and a representative of the American Automobile Association, says he is ready to assume full responsibility for keeping Mr Don off the beach. ■ He himself had inspected it and ruled it unsafe.
Asked if he proposed another run to-morrow, Mr Don replied :: “I have been waiting for a good beach for ages. My car is ready. I will not stay here until Christmas. I have a party on at Home then."
