SATURDAY’S MATCH. HAMILTON v. WAIPA. RESULTS IN A DRAW. Playing against Waipa in the challenge match for the Pratt Cup at Seddon Park on Saturday, the Hamilton senior eleven secured a draw, and retained the trophy. Waipa won the toss and sent Hamilton in to hat on a wicket that was only slightly affected by the rain, and was drying rapidly. Winger and Senior opened to the bowling of of Tarr and Smith, and runs came very slowly. The first wicket fell at 22, but .with the appearance of Eyre at the crease the scoring brightened. Hampton played a forcing innings, reaching 8G before he was caught on the boundary. Hemus gave a neat exhibition, but was well caught off a lofty off drive. Going continued his hard hitting methods, landing four 6’s and two boundaries in his total of 36. The Waipa innings began at 4.15, with only an hour and a quarter to play. Oram and Gorrie went in first, and after playing steadily for some time’ the latter had the misfortune to play a ball on his wicket after stopping it- Winter never settled down, and snicked a slow break from Going to Senior. Tarr did not have much trouble with the bowling, but v?as caught at point when 14. Spiers joined Oram, who had been playing very freely and soundly, and the pair continued together till almost closing time, scoring fairly easily from all the bowlers tried. Just before time Spiers jumped out to Winger and skied the hall to the slips. Ashton followed, and was stumped after scoring a boundary- The game ended in a draw, Hamilton retaining the trophy. Railway with seven men batted first and were dismissed for 55, Cussack 18, Johnston 12, reaching double figures. °Ousley took three wickets for 19; Owens, two for 13. Hamilton East replied with 180. Y.M.C.A. defeated Technical in the semi-final of the Junior Knock-out Competition an dhave yet to meet High ’ School. Technical went to the crease first and were dismissed for 4 6. (R. Everest 23.) Donaldson took eight wickets for 11 runs. Y.M.C.A. had 127 on the board when their last wicket fell, (Donaldson, not out 60, Dent 19, Cheeseman 13, gaining double figures). THE BOWLER SHIELD. GORDON DEFEAT MATAMATA. In a one-day challenge match, play.d at Gordon for the Bowler Shield, Cordon, the holders, successfully defended the shield against Matamata, the challengers, wanning by 98 to 68. Clarke (19 not out), .Browm (12), Brady and D. Montague (10 each) were the chief contributors to the home team’s score.
