MESSAGE FROM DOMINION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The following cablegram was despatched by the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, to the High Commissioner in London, Mr T. M. Wilford, on the occasion of the entertainment of the British footballers by the New Zealand Association in London: —“On the occasion of the New Zealand Association’s annual dinner I extend on behalf of the Government and people of this 'Dominion our warmest greetings to our kinsfolk in the Mother Country, and our good wishes to your guests for a most successful gathering. • "Please also inform the British Rugby team that a real ..welcome awaits them on arrival here. Such visits assuredly serve to strengthen still further the affection which unites the two countries.” BRITISH TEAM’S TOUR. WILL NOT PLAY NELSON. NOT FAIR TO THE DISTRICT. (By Telegraph.—-Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The British footballers have notified that they would not play the Nelson match, tne last on the list. It- was suggested that they were afraid of the Straits. Mr Dean said it would not he fair to the Seddon Shield district to abandon the match. The committee would take Uie matter up vigorously, and do its best to see that tiie game was played. The Prince of Wales’ Cup. The Maoris want June 3 at Christchurch, and June 4 at Wellington for the Prince of .Wales’ Gup games, both to be regarded as trial matches for the game with Uie British team. The Wellington representatives raised objections; on the ground that Uie union had already made sacrifices for the British tour, and could not give up'another Saturday.
