GRAMOPHONE NUISA'ICE.

(To the Editor.) Sir —.Can you give us any idea when *ho new by-law will come into operation dealing with the gramophone nuisance? Have the council shelved the largely-signed petition?—l am^etc., Hamilton, April, 11. (The Town Clerk informs us that the Borough Council, after consultation with its°solicitor, found that there was no way of dealing with the question effectively by by-law. The city Auckland has a hy-law bearing on the subject, but it is doubtful whether decisive action could be taken under it. It is within the powers of shopkeepers and any other affected to apply to the Supreme Court for an injunction restraining gramophone retailers from playing records in certain areas if proved a nuisance. —Ed. vv.r.;
