AMATEUR ACTIVITIES.
The boys of Southwell School are studying "The Yeomen of the Guard” Ibis year as their annual Gilbert and Sullivan production. The Palmerston North Operatic and Dramatic Society will stage the comedy “A Pair of Silk Stockings” in June. The players will include Misses Ulu Hancock and Lilian Teale, Messrs B. J. Jacobs, C. J. Roberts and J. W. Davidson. Later in the year it is probable that “Going Up” will he produced. The Napier Music and Elocution Society, at its annual meeting, reported a very successful year. The balance-sheet showed that the season stalled with a credit of £2GG 8s and finished with a credit of £.’IGG 12s Gd. Tlie Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society gave three one-act plays last week, under the direction of Miss lviore King. They were: “Suppressed Desires.” “The Great Look,” and “'Elizabeth Refuses.” This week the society staged “The Bird in Hand,” by John Drinkwater. The students of the Auckland University College will present their annual extravaganza, “All Quiet on the Waterfront,” next month. The plot, which is of a fantastic nature, deals with the potent properties of a beverage called “Nga Pei," which has the power of changing the wishes of anyone who drinks it. Mr 11. A. FyrerRaisher will be the leading man, am Mr E. Brodie will be a comic dame. "The New Morality,’’ by Harold Chapin, will he staged next, month by a party of Auckland amateurs on behalf of the obstetrical appeal. The cast will be: Betty, Mona Walbank; Alice, Enid Hosking: The Maid, Audrey perry; Colonel Jones, E. Churchouse; Teddy Wister, Lees Bullot; Belasis, F. E. McCallum; Wootton, Alan McElwain. Mrs Bartley Baxter will produce and Sister Hovey will be .stage manager.
