Figures showing how the trade of the Dominions and Colonies is advancing rapidly while that of Britain is waning are contained in a memorandum just issued by the Imperial Economic Committee, oi which the chairman is Sir Halford Mackinder, says a Condon paper, it sets out the following feels: — In 1 927 and 1928 the exports from the Empire over-seas exceeded those from I lie United Kingdom by about 4 0 per cent., although in JODI they were below them by 7 per cent. In Canada and New Zealand oxporls in 1927 were 100 per cent, greater and 4 0 per -cent, greater respectively Ilian in 1915. in Australia trade expanded by 10 per cent, and in South Africa by 18 per cent. Exports from the United Kingdom to Hie Em-pire over-seas were about 9 per cent, less in 1927 than in 19111: Hie decrease in exports to foreign countries was about 30 per coni. in 1927 the United Kingdom imported about 4 0 per cent, more Empire produce than in 1913; the increase m imports of foreign produce was about 15 per cent. World trade in 1 927 was up by 20 per cent, compared with 1913, while Empire trade (excluding re-exports) was about 27.5 per cent, greater. The committee states: “The external trade of the Empire exceeds that or Liny other large unit, such as the i United Slates of America or I lie suggested United States of Con linen la 1 Europe. The Empire over-seas is becoming increasingly important lo the United Kingdom, both as a market for produce and as a source of supply. '
