FIREMEN’S CONFERENCE.
ENTHUSIASM DISPLAV-ED. MODERNISED COMPETITIONS. Mr A. Craig, Superintendent of the Hamilton Fire Brigade, who returned from the United Fire Brigades’ Conference at Whanigarci on Saturday, stated to a Waikato Times reporter that the ' meeting exemplified the splendid standard of efficiency maintained toy the lire brigades of New Zealand, and the enthusiastic spirit evinced augured well for the future. One thing apparent from the conference was that the rules governing fire brigade competitions were continually" becoming more modernised, and each year were made as near as possible to the latest Arc-fighting methods. Mr Craig, who was visibly affected in speaking on the subject, referred to the great loss the Hamilton Brigade suffered in the death of Mac, its dOg mascot, which occurred during _ the Superintendent’s absence in Whangarci. Mr Craig said the news was telephoned to him there. On learning flic news the other delegates at the conference expressed their sincere sorrow at the’ occurrence, showing that the dog was well known throughout New Zealand.
