FIRST TEST MATCH. M.C.C. V. NEW ZEALAND. ENGLISHMEN’S EASY WIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The M.G.G. team won the first test match against New Zealand to-day by eight wickets. When the game was resumed after lunch, the attendance was about 3000. A Wonderful Catch. A wonderful catch by Duleepsinhji disposed of Dempster. He late-cut a fast-rising ball which looked like going to the fence. However, Duleepsinhji sprang up and held a great catch. 653 —25.

Lowry joined Page. Barratt replaced Ailom and in his second over Page dragged over in playing forward and was smartly stumped. 794 —21. Roberts joined his captain, but after a period of slow play he mishit a fast ball from Worthington and was caught. James replaced him, and the third ball from Worthington found him with his legs in front to a straight ball. Dickinson followed. Ailom replaced Woolley and clean bowled Merritt with his third ball. Henderson was New Zealand’s last hope, but was soon clean bowled. The innings lasted 2 hours 55 minutes.

M.C.C. Second Innings. Requiring 63 to win the M.C.C. opened with Gilligan and Dawson. Dickinson and Henderson were the bowlers. Blunt replaced Dickinson and got Dawson Ibw, with the score 14. Duleepsinhji’s appearance was heralded with applause. Gilligan had scored only four when Blunt bowled him to the cheers of the crowd. The applause was renewed when Woolley went in. Runs were now coming at a good rate and 50 went up for 45 minutes’ play. Merritt relieved Henderson, and with seven runs still wanted Dempster relieved Blunt. Ten came off five balls.
