A violent thunderstorm in Sydney to-day was responsible for the loss of two lives and great damage to buildings and gardens. Three schoolboys were sheltering in a stormwater canal at Lelchardt, when suddenly they were overwhelmed by a wall of water. They were carried half a mile. Two of the boys, aged ten and eight respectively, were drowned. The third lad was rescued in an unconscious condition.

A horse was killed by lightning. Poultry and birds were killed by liafl, which also smashed windows and motor-car wind-screens by the score. The city was deluged and the lower portions of Hunter and George Streets became like swirling torrents of water Inches deep.
