The best time registered by any New Zealand winner Is Prince Humphrey's 2.323 twelve months ago. For Phar Lap to win by eight lengths,. pulling up In 2.311, makes him exceptionally good from the time point of view, when It Is considered that he ha 3 only Just entered on his three-year-old career and had 8.10 to carry. The Australian record for a mile and a-half Is held by Gothic and Klcialdes who ran 2.29 at Flemlngton and Warwick Farm respectively. The New Zealand record for the distance Is 2.31, held by Star Stranger (Trentham), Pllllewlnkle (Rlccarton), Maloha (Trentham), Bonnie Wlnkie (Wlngatul) and Insurrection (Trentham).
